As we passed through Sequim last Monday (July 7th) on our way into Port Angeles, we saw a group of buildings that had big colorful totem poles on the property. On down the road we passed an Indian Casino and saw more of the poles. We later found out the first poles we saw were on the James S'Klallam Tribal Campus (in Sequim). This campus contains a health clinic, dental clinic, library as well as a community center, etc. for tribal members.
On Friday, (July 11th) we decided to drive back to Sequim to tour the campus. On the campus grounds was a building called "House of Myths" and this is where these wonderful totem poles are designed and chiseled by Dale Faulstich. Dale has worked for the tribe for over 20 years making these totem poles for this tribe as well as other tribes around the country. We were allowed to walk around the campus and into the carving shed. Below are some of the pictures we took.
The pictures above were taken at the campus.

These are drawing for past and present poles.
After I had asked this guy several questions, Alan pointed out the really big board listing "the most frequently asked questions"......I guess if it had been in front of you when you walked in we would have seen it. It was on the right side of the door facing inward. Maybe he felt like talking that day???? We got a laugh out of it!
I am attaching a link to a website that I found when researching the totem poles. If you are interested you can click on the link to see more pictures and learn more about Dale and the culture and history behind these poles.

Saturday Morning Market:
We went to the outdoor market they have every Saturday morning on the waterfront in Port Angeles during the summer. There were lots of different vendors including produce, bakery, meat, and flower vendors. There were vendors selling all kinds of good smelling food......we tried the Asian ladies Pot Stickers.
They were hot and delicious!
We feel so compelled to take many pictures of the beautiful displays of produce each time we go to one of these markets. When we see it.....you will also.
We walked around the corner from the market to get a picture of this old boat at the docks.
While driving around Sequim we passed a marina with a sign that said "John Wayne Marina". We were curious if that was "the" John Wayne. We found out that he used to come to the Sequim area to sail his boat. His family donated the land to build this 22 acre marina.
We stopped for lunch at the "101 Diner" in Sequim. It really took you back in time.
The burgers were VERY good!
Probably one of the best burgers we have ever had!
Swiss burger with fried onion rings! YUM!
