Seattle - Day 2

Seattle Lake Cruise Tour:  On Wednesday morning we boarded the ferry again for a Seattle lake cruise. This was a two hour cruise that traveled through Lake Union,  Portage Bay, Union Bay, and then into Lake Washington.  We had a great tour guide that gave us lots of history regarding anything pertaining to the lakes as well as information regarding what famous people lived where.  Two of the most notable that we passed was the house of Bill Gates and the CEO of Starbucks.  On the way back in we saw the houseboat that was used in the making of the movie "Sleepless in Seattle".   We passed the University of Washington stadium which is the home of the University of Washington Huskies.  It was a really great day on the lake with plenty of sun and warm weather.

Our tour boat had chairs up top and also a large a seating area on the bottom deck that is closed in for those cloudy, rainy Seattle days.  We lucked out!  We had sun and blue skies.

Below are a few pictures of the famous Seattle floating houses.

The houses shown in the picture above are some of the newer  floating houses.

The oldest houseboat left floating. A fixer upper for only $600,000.

The floating house in this picture was used in the movie..."Sleepless in Seattle".

The following are pictures of the home of Bill Gates.  The white covering on the roof is where there was some construction work being done on the house.   His house sits on 5 acres of land and the house and garage areas equal 66,000 square feet.

Other things we passed along the waterway:

University of Washington Huskies stadium.

The two story building is a business on the water.  It does float and has to pass a yearly watercraft inspection.  It is technically a boat.

Restaurant on the water.

Seattle Duck tour boat.

Kenmore Air originated in Seattle in 1946 and has a seaplane base located on Lake Union next to where we took our lake tour.  They ferry passengers throughout Puget Sound and the San Juan Islands.  They also give 20 minute flight tours over Seattle.   They were taking off and landing all around our boat when we left the dock and when we returned.

We weren't able to take the seaplane tour, but we walked around the seaplane base and bought the t-shirt!

Another great day in Seattle!
